The Gilded Age
Unit 4 completes our study of the nineteenth century. The last quarter of the century is known as the Gilded Age, an era of golden opportunities that often covered an uglier society underneath, marked by great divisions between rich and poor, racism, and, for many Westerners, glittering materialism coupled with increasing spiritual emptiness.
