Nations Dividing and Uniting
In this unit, we study the third quarter of the nineteenth century. During this time, the United States endured one of its biggest trials: the Civil War, which raged and ravaged four years — from April of 1861 to April of 1865.
For American students, the Civil War takes center stage of most studies of this period, but it was not the only event that deeply affected world history. The expansion of British and American trade into Asia, the union of the Italian and German states, and the deterioration of the Concert of Europe are also events worthy of our attention.
As nations in Europe consolidated and America emerged a single nation after the divisive Civil War, students will continue to follow the theme of God’s merciful and just hand in history.
